Kiln Construction Project with 500,000 Man Hours Managed by Oxford

The Challenge

A chemical lime producer was building a new vertical kiln from the ground up, the largest project they had undertaken in the US. The brownfield project consisted of upgrading an existing facility to increase productivity and add new technologies. The budget for the project was over $150 million. The client had hired an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction company (EPC) to build the plant, but asked Oxford to partner with them to oversee the EPC firm and keep them transparent with time and budget for the duration of the project. The client determined that to ensure the best possible outcome for their project, they needed help from Oxford to be their eyes and ears onsite so they could maintain their day-to-day tasks.

The Solution

We provided a team of eight engineers to represent the client and oversee the activities of the EPC. Roles included:

  • Site Construction Manager
  • Civil Supervisor
  • Field Safety Manager
  • Safety Manager
  • Mechanical Supervisor
  • Electrical Superintendents
  • Sr. Civil Construction Superintendent

The Construction Manager acted as the client’s right hand and assembled a team of engineers for mechanical, electrical, safety, civil, and structural activities. They all ensured the project stayed on schedule and budget.

The Result

The kiln was successfully constructed with over 500,000 man-hours worked without incident.
