Developed Student Registration Portal for Big 10 University

The Challenge
We were engaged by our client, a major university system, to modify the course registration functions of their main campus portal. One of the key goals was to capture students’ information into various other campuses’ data systems. In order to accomplish these goals, design and development of four interfaces capturing the following data types was needed:

• Bio Demo
• Current Registration
• Curriculum
• Grading

Other goals of the engagement were to automate and streamline the current registration process to reduce the duplication of effort, shorten the registration cycle and ensure that data was available through the interfaces developed for the campuses’ involved. The university did not have the internal expertise or the bandwidth to manage this effort and complete the work within the five month period before it was needed.

The Solution
Our team designed, developed and deployed four interfaces for the needed data types. The solution involved resources that provided technical and functional direction while documenting the requirements in addition to designing the interfaces. We also provided a project governance structure to maintain the tight timelines and provide the project management the university itself could not. Throughout the effort the following deliverables were provided:

• Interface Specification Documents
• Test Case Scenarios
• User Acceptance Test Results
• Governance Maintenance Plans
• Tracking and reporting of activities, and also overall governance in managing the tasks

The Result
Our solution resulted in on-time delivery of the required interfaces. The interfaces developed lead to a decrease in future re-work by creating API’s that were compliant with both Banner versions 8 and 9. We also provided clear knowledge transfer to super users for future maintenance of the interfaces.
