936 Page Fire Protection Protocols Condensed within Eight Weeks

The Challenge
Oxford was in discussions with one of the largest nuclear power plant fleets in the country, at the forefront of expanding the nation’s carbon-free energy, when we noticed that their fire protection protocols were out of date. They recognized the need and trusted us to bring in the right person.

The Solution
We provided a Fire Protection Engineer who took the 936-page fire protection protocol document and analyzed it to modernize its standards and procedures. The document was over 35 years old and in need of a refresh. The consultant re-wrote and upgraded the CPS Fire Protection Code Report using the fire hazard analysis and other fire protection design documents in accordance with the client’s existing guide and CPS technical documents. They also reviewed design specifications, drawings, vendor tech manuals, commitments, and other design basis documents. This included:

  • Technical test procedures
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM) documents
  • Surveillance instructions
  • Drawings
  • Calculations
  • Evaluations
  • Vendor Technical Manuals
  • NRC Information Notices (INs)
  • Operating Experience Documents (OEs)
  • NRC Regulation Guides
  • National Electrical Code
  • ASME Code

The Result
The consultant was able to condense the document into a 156-page version that was more easily understood. This update took only eight weeks, and allowed the client to comply with all updated safety procedures and guidelines.
